Hawk Moth (Amplypterus panopus) in Sumatra Indonesia





Those photos above were taken in Bengkulu Sumatra Indonesia. This large and beautiful moth is from the family of sphingidae under genus of Amplypterus. The wingspan size of this moth is 5 inches (127mm) while the body length is about 2 inches (51 mm). The eyes are colored brown and big. All over the head and thorax is covered with dark grey and brown color. The fore wings is dominated with light brown from post basal to post discal. We can see there is an ocelli at the tornal. At the hind wing, the color is pink at the cell. The border is black enclosing some grey blocks. The most similar species to this moth is Amplypterus panopus.
