Palm King Butterfly (Amathusia phidippus)


This photo was taken in Bengkulu Sumatra Indonesia. This palm king butterfly (Amathusia phidippus) is a shy butterfly. It is uneasy to aproach this butterfly and it always try to hide itself behind leaves or branches. I never see this butterfly spreads its wings. It  has the body length about 70 to 80mm. the color pattern of hind wing and fore wing almost the same. It has the combination of white, light brown, and brown lines cross through fore wing and hind wing. It also has two big ocelli at the under side of hind wing and two small ocelli at the tail.
