Rhinoceros Beetle (Xylotrupes gideon) Male Sumatra Indonesia


Photos in this post were taken in Bengkulu Sumatra Indonesia. This is the male of rhinoceros beetle  (Xylotrupes gideon). This unique insect has horn-like at its head and pronotum. Both horns are bifurcated. All of the body especially the elytra has a shiny dark brown color. The female doesn't have the horn.





The size of this beetle is about 70mm. This beetle is from the family of Scarabaeidae under genus of Xylotrupes. The research has proven that this kind of beetle is enable to lift the weigh 100 times its own weight.
