The Tawny Rajah Butterfly (Charaxes Bernardus) Sumatra Indonesia


Photos in this post were taken in Bengkulu Sumatra Indonesia. This butterfly has a common name tawny rajah (Charaxes Bernardus. This butterfly has pale brown-orange color at its upper side of wings, thorax and abdomen. The color of apical, sub apical and marginal of fore wing is black. At the hind wing, there are some small black marks at the margin.


At the under side of wings are colored tawny brown with some zigzag pattern across the wings. The wing span is about 10cm. This butterfly is from the family of  Nymphalidae under genus of Charaxes.
