Banana Stalk Fly (Telostylinus sp), Sumatra Indonesia


Photos in this post were taken in Bengkulu Sumatra Indonesia. This fly has common name of banana stalk fly. It is also recognized as the cactus fly. It is from the family of Neriidae under genus of Telostylinus. The species presented here is a little bit different to Telostylinus lineolatus that it doesn't have black stripe at the side of thorax (humeral) and white sripe at the mid dorsal like Telostylinus lineolatus does.





This fly has long antennae. The color of the antennae is brown from the base and white at the top. It has long legs. The head is rather long and narrow. The upper side of thorax has two segment. The color of the upper side of thorax is shiny brown. The side of thorax has gre color. The abdomen is pale yellow to yellow. It has the size about 10mm long.
