Fighting spider (Thiania bhamoensis), Sumatra Indonesia

This tiny jumping spider photo was taken in Bengkulu Sumatera Indonesia. Like most of jumping spider, this tiny spider (the family of salticidae, genus  Thiania ) easily can jump up to more than six times its body length. The size of the body of jumping spider in this photo is about 6 mm long.

This spider has white hairy face. The cephalothorax is flat and longer than broad. The abdomen is elongated, rounded at the front end and converging steadily to the spinnerets. Cephalothorax is black or dark colour and followed by a broad, crescent-shaped band of iridescent, bronze-coloured, squamose hairs. The abdomen has blue hairy stripes. First pair of legs are slightly swollen and larger than others.

Because two males will readily fight each other, either in a natural setting, or if put together, they are commonly known as "fighting spider".
