Tiger Moth (Caeneressa diaphana), Sumatra Indonesia


Photos in this post were taken in Bengkulu Sumatra Indonesia. This tiger moth is from family of Erebidae  under the tribe Arctiini. The species name is Caeneressa diaphana (Kollar, 1844).


This moth has yellow face and yellow hairy collar at the head. The thorax is hairy in black color and yellow hairy marks over it.  The abdomen has intermittently black and yellow bands. The  hind wing is much smaller than fore wing. Both wings are dominated with transparrent cells. The veins are black.


The antennae are black with white tips. The leg is black except at the tarsus which has white color. The wing span is about 35mm.
