Dung Beetle ( Catharsius sp), Sumatra Indonesia


Photos in this post were taken in Bengkulu Sumatra Indonesia. This beetle is from the Family of Scarabaeidae under genus of  Catharsius.





This beetle has black color all over its body. Pronotum is densely granulated and elytra are finely striated.

This beetle is considered as a useful insect for ecology and soil dynamics of tropical areas.  It bury vaste amounts of dung into the ground, thus improving the quality and texture of the soils. The size of this female Catharsius is about 25mm.
