The Fruit Piercing Moth (Eudocima phalonia), Sumatra Indonesia


Photos in this post were taken in Bengkulu Sumatra Indonesia. This Owlet moth is the male of Eudocima phalonia. This moth is from the family of Noctuidae under genus of Eudocima.


This moth has brown color at the upperside of fore wing and orange color at the hindwing. At the hindwing, a broad black mark is present at the dorsum, and a broad black comma mark at the middle of hindwing upper side. The wingspan is about 80mm.


This moth is considered an agricultural pest, causing damage to many fruit crops by piercing it with its strong proboscis in order to suck the juice
