Tube Spittlebug (Machaerota finitima), Sumatra Indonesia

This photo was taken in Bengkulu Sumatra Indonesia. This bug has common name of tube spittlebug. It is from genus of Machaerota and the scientific name is Machaerota finitima (Jacobi, 1928)

This bug has brown color of body. The wings are transparrent with brown color of veins. The scutellum has long narrow extension backward above the abdomen. The size is about 4mm.

Even the scientific name of this bug can be found through the internet, the correct family and superfamily of this bug is confusing. One site state that this bug is from the family of Clastopteridae while other state that this bug is from Machaerotidae family.

Not also confusing in the family level, even in superfamily level it is getting worse. EOL put the family of Machaerotidae along with Clastopteridae, Epipygidae, Aphrophoridae and Cercopidae under the same superfamily of Cercopoidea, while bugguide put Cercopidae under superfamily of Cicadoidea.
