Cotton Caterpillar Moth (Diaphania indica), Sumatra Indonesia


Photos in this post were taken in Bengkulu Sumatra Indonesia. This unique moth is from the family of Crambidae under genus of Diaphania. The species name is Diaphania indica (Saunders, 1851)


This moth has translucent whitish wings with broad dark brown borders. The uniqueness of this moth is it has "the tail" on the tip of the abdomen which looks like a tuft of light brown feathers. This tail shakes slowly and continously to the left and right like a catterpillar head. The size of the wingspan is about 30mm.
