Shiny Jumping Spider (Cosmophasis umbratica), Sumatra Indonesia


Photos in this post were taken in Bengkulu Sumatra Indonesia. This spider is from the family of Salticidae under genus of Cosmophasis. The scientific name for this species is Cosmophasis umbratica (Eugène Simon, 1903)




This jumping spider has broad chepalothorax and  narrow abdomen. It has shiny iridiscent marks on its chepalothorax and legs.  On its chepalothorax, the color of marks are shiny gold and green, while on the legs are metallic yellow color. On its abdomen it has white line mark at the middle of abdomen and along the border of its abdomen. A research has shown that those iridiscent marks are enable to reflect UV light which has strong relationship with its mating behaviour. The size of this jumping spider is about 7mm.
