Thick Headed Fly (Physoconops sp)


Photos in this post were taken in Bengkulu Sumatra Indonesia. This fly is from the family of Conopidae under genus of Physoconops



The shape and color of this thick headed fly is resemble to a wasp. It has narrow  first  and the second segment of abdomen and broader at the others. It has black and brown body color, brown translucent wings and  two short white halteres. The antennae look longer then other common fly, and it also has long proboscis. The size is about 10mm long. Unlike another genus under the family of conopidae that has resemble shape - Physocephala - this fly doesn't have ocelli between the compound eyes.
