Sword-Bearing Thorelliola Jumper Spider (Thorelliola ensifera)

Photos in this post were taken in Bengkulu Sumatra Indonesia. This horned jumping spider is from the family of Salticidae under genus of Thorelliola. The scientific name for this jumping spider is Thorelliola ensifera (Thorell, 1877).



This spider has two horns which are spinelike setae those emerged from the centre of its clypeus and projecting forwards. The eye surrounds are black with the shiny carapace orange-brown in colour, becoming dark brown on the sides and rear slope. The underlying colour of the abdomen is a muddy yellow with mottled dark brown on the sides and much of the rear. There are three small, circular, very white tufts of hair along the rear edge of the abdomen.
